Literary Harvest Event Volunteers Needed!

One of the biggest evenings of the year for the Central Oregon Writers Guild is coming October 18.

The Literary Harvest committee has worked hard. The judges have the submissions in hand.

We have successfully almost doubled the number of submissions this year from last year. Paty Jager is organizing our membership’ published authors with a book table at the event.

We need members to help with the evening of the event. It will not take a long time, maybe no more than one hour per volunteer that evening.

We are a volunteer-fueled group and would like to include as many folks as possible. A number of members wrote down on their membership forms they would like to help with special events. Here’s a great opportunity to support fellow writers and your fellow members.

There will be a Harvest committee meeting on Monday Sept. 30 at the Barnes and Noble coffee shop in Bend at 3:00. We would love to see you there. If your schedule is full at that time, but would still like to volunteer, please email Mike Rettig at:
mlrettig@hotmail .com

We’ll contact you shortly.

Thank you,

Mike Rettig

Thursday, September 26 Guild Meeting Features Bend Author Tawna Fenske

Bend author Tawna Fenske is the featured speaker at Central Oregon Writers Guild’s Thursday, September 26, 2013 meeting, 6:30 – 9 p.m. at COCC Redmond Campus, Building 3 Room 309.

A third generation Oregonian, Tawna has been writing from the time she could link two words together to form a sentence. She has traveled a career path that took her from newspaper reporter to English teacher in Venezuela to marketing geek to PR manager for her city’s tourism bureau. An avid globetrotter and social media fiend, Tawna is the author of the popular blog, Don’t Pet Me, I’m Writing, and a member of Romance Writers of America. She’s published several romantic comedies with Sourcebooks, including Making Waves and Believe it or Not, as well as the interactive fiction caper, Getting Dumped, with Coliloquy and the novella Eat, Play, Lust, with Entangled Publishing.

Her quirky brand of comedy and romance has won praises from RT Book Reviews, which nominated Making Waves for Contemporary Romance of the Year, and from the Chicago Tribune, which noted, "Fenske's wildly inventive plot and wonderfully quirky characters provide the perfect literary antidote to any romance reader's summer reading doldrums.” To learn more about Tawna’s writer’s journey, visit her website, www.TawnaFenske.com.

4TH GRADE BOOK CONTEST SEEKS VOLUNTEERS

We are looking for volunteers to help with the Redmond 4th Grade Picture Book Writing Contest.

Specifically we are currently in need of volunteers who can assist as School Coordinators to handle communication with the schools.

The responsibilities for this position will be conducted mainly through email, with the possibility of a phone call or two during the course of the contest.

School Coordinator will handle all communications with their assigned school(s).

Communications may include:

-Informing school of contest timeline, providing your contact information
-Finding the answers to teachers’/school administrators’ questions.
-Coordinating author/illustrators visits into classrooms.
-Inviting participating teachers and students to reception.

Instructions on which communications need to be delivered to the schools and when will be provided by contest coordinator (Kai Strand).

This is not a time consuming position and can be easily worked into a busy schedule since emails can be sent at all hours of the day and night. Your commitment would be from now through March.

Seven volunteers would be ideal to make the work of all those involved the lightest. If you are interested in being a School Coordinator, please contact kaistrand@yahoo.com.

Thank you!
