REMINDER: Thursday June 25 COWG Meeting

Central Oregon Writers Guild’s Thursday, June 25, 2009 meeting features local author and teacher Mike Lankford, who will speak on the topic “The Intensive Writers Workshop versus Other More Conventional Writers Groups.” Mike has considerable experience facilitating intensive workshops, and he will talk about the structure of those sessions. The objective is that each writer’s novel is finished and ready to submit for publication at the workshop’s conclusion. Mike’s presentation will compare the differences between the conventional and intensive writers groups and he will talk about which best will benefit authors as they pursue their writing goals.

Mike Lankford is a graduate of the Iowa Writer’s Workshop. His book “Life in Double Time: Confessions of an American Drummer” is an earthy and realistic memoir of his road experiences as a musician. He has ghost-written 13 books for others, both fiction and non fiction, taught creative writing at Southern Methodist University and taught in the summer writing program at Iowa. As a newspaper columnist, he won an Iowa Newspaper Association prize, and as a short story writer he was a finalist for the Pushcart Award. Currently he is working on two novels and teaches essay writing at Central Oregon Community College.

The meeting takes place at Central Oregon Community College Redmond Campus, 2030 SE College Loop, Building 3, Room 306 from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. The meeting is free and open to the public.
