Karen Duvall Releases Knight's Curse

Karen Duvall's new urban fantasy novel, KNIGHT'S CURSE,
published by Harlequin Luna, has been named one of Publisher's Weekly top
ten picks for Fall 2011. Karen will do a reading and sign books at Barnes
and Noble Bookstore in Bend, Oregon, on Sunday, September 18, at 2:00 p.m.

KNIGHT'S CURSE is a contemporary fantasy featuring a modern female knight
named Chalice, who is half angel and half human, with superhuman senses. A

skills to steal enchanted artifacts for their collection. She longs for
freedom, but she may have to pay with her life to get it.

KNIGHT'S CURSE is the first book in a series, with the second book, DARKEST
KNIGHT, scheduled for release in the spring of 2012.

Saturday, August 2 ... Garth Stein, author of the very popular THE ART OF RACING IN THE RAIN, will be in the store on Saturday, August 2, for a booksigning -- 1:30-2:00. Stein is the author of three novels: THE ART OF RACING IN THE RAIN (Harper, 2008); HOW EVAN BROKE HIS HEAD AND OTHER STORIES (Soho Press, 2005), which won a 2006 Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association Book Award, and was a Book Sense Pick in both hardcover and paperback; and RAVEN STOLE THE MOON (Pocket, 1998). Wednesday, August 6 ... Karen Castelbaum leads the workshop FOUND TREASURE: RESTORING LOVELINESS TO THE FORSAKEN. That which we 'discard' as useless or ugly holds beauty for the soul. In this playshop you will experiment with 'forsaken' or found objects to create utterly unique art pieces. In the light of creative imagination and curiosity trash takes on a vibrant lumiosity! This playshop is AUGUST 6 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at the store and RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED. Cost is $30.00 (includes most materials; a complete materials list provided upon registration). Karen is a counselor, artist & expressive arts facilitator who loves fooling around with words and images.

Thursday, August 14 ... Join us at 7:00 p.m. for a reading and release party celebrating Jonathan Ludwig's first chapbook of poetry and short stories, FALSE STARTS, FRAGMENTS & FALSEHOODS (2008, Throwback Books). Ludwig is a member of the Bend Poetry Slam Team. Either everything in this new chapbook is a lie or the title is--it is tough to tell. The content is difficult to believe: buying bits of a woman's body, making molotov cocktails for our generation out of Hostess Pink Snowballs and chopsticks, late night bottles of booze that have more of a social life than the author. But each becomes difficult to discount after reading these maybe-autobiographical stories. Typed in the font of a classic Oliver No. 5 with its butterfly falling keys, these textured stories will have you rereading each cryptic line to try to find a lie or a truth within it.
