Brian Johnson Presenting at the March 25 Meeting

THURSDAY MARCH 25 COWG MEETING REMINDER

Central Oregon Writers Guild’s Thursday March 25, 2010 meeting will feature Brian Johnson, a film and video production professional, who will present his talk on “The Screenplay Sampler.”

You’ve seen the words “Written By” in the credits of your favorite movies, but what does a movie script look like? What goes into it? How does creating one differ from writing a novel or a stage play?

Local film and video writer and director Brian Johnson presents a whirlwind tour of screenplays, from writing originals and adaptations, to seeing a screenplay translate to the visual medium of film. The evening will include script and movie samples from Hollywood and his own collection, plus recommended reading for those interested in taking up a new literary form. (Attendees may want to find and read O. Henry’s short story, “Mammon and the Archer”, before the event.)

Brian minored in Creative Writing at Bob Jones University, Greenville, South Carolina, training which he uses when working on both commercial and personal video projects. He has written church and camp skits, stage adaptations of fairy tales for elementary schools, several scripts for short films, and two feature-length screenplays, one of which was a runner-up in two screenplay competitions. His film review column can be read monthly in Bend’s “Cascades Arts & Entertainment” magazine, and for fun he maintains four public blogs on his arts reviews, his video production adventures, his Christian beliefs, and his life in general.

Central Oregon Writers Guild’s Thursday March 25, 2010 meeting takes place at the Central Oregon Community College Redmond Campus, 2030 SE College Loop, Building 1 Room 122, from 6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. The meeting is free and open to the public.
