AUTHOR JILL WILLIAMSON FEATURED SPEAKER AT
THURSDAY MARCH 28 GUILD MEETING

Award-winning novelist Jill Williamson is the featured speaker at Central Oregon Writers Guild’s Thursday March 28 meeting. Author of several Young Adult books, Jill will talk about her writer’s journey, beginning with the inspiration for her stories to their eventual publication. Her debut novel By Darkness Hid, the first in her Blood of Kings series, won the 2010 Christy Award and was named one of VOYA Magazine’s Best Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Books of 2009. In 2012, she released the popular futurist novel, Replication. In addition to writing, Jill also hosts blog tours for other Young Adult authors, and conducts writing workshops at libraries, schools, camps and churches. Central Oregon Writers Guild’s Thursday March 28 meeting takes place at COCC Redmond Campus, 2030 SE College Loop, Building 3 Room 309, 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. The meeting is free and everyone is invited to attend. Refreshments will be served and Jill’s books will be available for purchase.

Meeting Notes:

Award-winning author Rick Steber spoke at our February 28 meeting, where he read from several of his novels. He talked about his writing career, and shared his experience and expertise with an enthusiastic audience. We appreciate Rick’s presentation and his guidance and encouragement with all who were in attendance. Thursday April 25—Featured speaker is Central Oregon Magazine editor Kim Cooper Findling. Special presentations by Redmond School District’s 4^th Grade Book Writing Contest first place winner and runner-up. Winner Shelby McCauley presents High Buzzing Adventure, and runner-up Jessica Simpson reads her story, Cowgirl Love. The meeting location is COCC Redmond Campus, Building 3, Room 309.

Saturday April 27—Critique workshop conducted by Paty Jager and Lindy Jacobs, also at COCC Redmond Campus, Building 3, Room 309. Stay tuned for details!

About Us

CENTRAL OREGON WRITERS GUILD
Founded in 2002, Central Oregon Writers Guild's mission is to provide Central Oregon area writers a forum for mutual support and education through meetings, critique groups, annual events and workshops. Our goal is to advance growth and success for individual writers of all genres and skill levels. The Guild is a not-for-profit organization, where volunteers coordinate the group's activities.

MEETINGS
Guild meetings take place on the fourth Thursday of each month, except for November and December, where we offer programs featuring authors, editors, agents and publishers to speak on topics of interest to writers at all skill levels. Meetings are free and open to the public. Regular blog updates provide details about programs, speakers, and locations.

MEMBERSHIP
Membership is open to writers at all skill levels and genres, as well as anyone interested in writing. Annual dues are $20, prorated quarterly, and renewal is $18. LITERARY HARVEST
The Guild's Annual Literary Harvest features a writing contest open to members and local area residents. The contest opens in June, and guidelines for entry will be posted on the blog in May. Winners are selected by a volunteer panel of judges. The top ten winners read their stories at the Harvest in early October. Their winning pieces are published in the Literary Harvest Chapbook, which is available for purchase at the Guild meetings, as well as local book stores.

REDMOND SCHOOL DISTRICT FOURTH GRADE BOOK CONTEST
In partnership with the High Desert Society of the Arts, Redmond Rotary Club and Redmond Library, Central Oregon Writers Guild sponsors the annual Redmond School District’s 4th Grade Book Contest. The contest is open to Redmond School District 4th grade students, including those who attend Christian schools and home schooled students who are at the 4th grade level. HDSA and Guild members make classroom presentations to offer students guidance as they write and illustrate their books. The contest opens in September, and information is posted on the blog.

CRITIQUE GROUPS
